Emerging Leaders Working Group
Shaping the future of research leadership in the NHS
At the 2024 UKRD Summit we began a programme of inviting ‘mentees’ to the event as a development opportunity, asking delegates to bring colleagues who may benefit from being exposed to strategic discussions and connecting with senior colleagues.
This has now become a permanent part of the Summit and the people who attended as mentees have formed the emerging leaders working group that will focus on developing a greater understanding of what is required to lead at the highest level of R&D and to work collaboratively with fellow leaders to influence the national R&D agenda, ultimately priming the next generation of NHS R&D and UKRD leadership.

Working together for effective leadership development
The emerging leaders working group is currently creating an activity programme that will include regular meetings, contributing to UKRD commissioned surveys, questionnaires, position papers and collaborative projects, attending relevant stakeholder meetings and establishing a peer led support platform to review and share learning.
As the group evolves these plans may shift in line with new requirements, specific development opportunities and measures of success.
