NHS England has published two documents to support NHS organisations undertake research and meet the requirements of the Medium Term Planning Framework. These documents follow the 10 year Health Plan, which positions health and care research as an embedded, business-as-usual NHS activity.
The framework for NHS boards: monitoring research activity is aimed at those working on NHS boards, providing a definition of what good looks like and includes tools to better understand and assess research activity, income and performance, to ensure it responds to local and national needs, to help increase patient participation and to build truly research inclusive organisations.
Managing research finance in the NHS provides practical and actionable information to make it easier for NHS organisations to undertake research and manage research finances. The document sets out the many specific aspects to how research finance is managed, reported and governed.
